Autobahn GmbH des Bundes was founded as part of the federal trunk road reform in September 2018. The company is wholly owned by the federal government and has its headquarters in Berlin. The aim of the company is to provide an efficient and safe federal motorway network with uniform quality standards. With the successful completion of the development phase, Autobahn GmbH des Bundes has taken over all tasks relating to motorways in Germany since 1 January 2021 - i.e. planning, construction, operation, maintenance, financing and asset management. In addition to the head office, the federal motorway network is divided into 10 branches.
